Revised Version of Anti-Idling Rule Moving Forward
As previously reported, the Division of Air Quality (DAQ) has released
a draft rule that, if approved by the Environmental Management Commission
(EMC), would require manufacturers to enforce idling limits for heavy
duty trucks, locomotives, and certain off-road equipment. It now appears
that DAQ will hold a second stakeholders meeting in August.

Final Week of the North Carolina General Assembly
The North Carolina House and Senate plan to adjourn the 2007 session
on Friday, July 18 after having taken action his week on: drought
management, appointments to the Environmental Management Commission,
vehicle size and weight changes, and towing of recreational boats.

MCIC Group to Address Impact of Modification of Combustion Source
Exemption Any facility with a combustion source
currently exempt from North Carolina’s air toxics rules may
lose that exemption under a rule approved July 10 to go to public
hearing by the Environmental Management Commission (EMC). As a result,
MCIC’s Science and Technology Committee is forming an ad hoc
working group of MCIC members to prepare comments for the upcoming

General Assembly Approves Coastal Stormwater Bill The
North Carolina General Assembly give final approval July 14, 2008
to a bill revising stormwater rules for 20 coastal counties after
local governments, homebuilders and environmentalists reached agreement
on the legislation.

Last Chance to Save $$ on 2008 EHS School Registration The
2008 EHS School will be held Monday, August 25 and Tuesday, August
26, 2008 at the McKimmon Conference and Training Center in Raleigh,
North Carolina. The standard tuition to attend the 2008 EHS School
is $299. However, attendees, who register and submit payment by July
25, 2008, can save $25 off the basic $299 registration fee and MCIC
members can also save an additional $40.

Appeals Court Strikes Down CAIR Rule A federal appeals court struck down the Environmental
Protection Agency's Clean Air Interstate Rule (CAIR) July 11, finding
“more than several fatal flaws in the rule.”

North Carolina Lawsuit against TVA Over Emissions Goes To Trial The trial of North Carolina’s suit against
the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) claiming the country’s
largest public utility hasn’t done enough to cut down air pollution
that blows across the mountains from 11 coal-fired power plants in
three neighboring states got underway July 14, 2008 in federal court
in Asheville.
